Re: gas/diesel Huge selling diff

Let's say you are getting roughly 50% more range per gallon with diesel. And you're getting maybe 2mpg, round number. On a 200 mile trip you'd need 100 gallons, that's about 800 pounds of fuel. On a round trip of 200 miles out and 200 back, that's 1600 pounds of fuel.

So, planning for your trips and the distances you want to cover, just how many thousand extra pounds of fuel do you want to carry? Or, to match that extra 50% in range, look at it the other way: You need to carry tankage for 50% more gasoline. would you rather make room for an extra 100 gallon fuel tank (think of two 55 gallon drums) or have the room for other things?

If gasoline suits your needs, and a lower resale price won't matter since you've got a lower purchase price, then it works for you. Ignoring the issue of gasoline being more explosive, since that's what fuels are really supposed to do anyway.

Re: gas/diesel Huge selling diff

Going thru the same process after 20yrs owning a cat with 1nm/.5ltr (.13us gals) burn for 6-7kts speed. No question about it Diesel for cruising, gas for racing.

Re: gas/diesel Huge selling diff

I run a 1994 SeaRay 440 with twin Cummins turbo 6bta diesels., Being a 83 year old retired mech. engr., I know that diesels are superior for long continuous hours of operation( think trains, trucks). Also diesel fuel is on the average easier to come by and at least $.75/gal cheaper,, I just put 160 gallons ($500) in the tanks; the boat next to me in a 32 footer put in 100 gals at $425..Avoid gas on big rigs for reliability.. By the way, mine is for sale at $47k in Titusville, Fl .. So close to the Bahamas!!!!
