Ensenada to La Paz

Anybody heading south to La Paz before the weather season?
I’ve heard a rumor of an alternate stop for fuel besides turtle bay???

Re: Ensenada to La Paz

I have not heard of a real alternative, which is just about halfway between Ensenada and Cabo. Turtle Bay fuel in December 2018 was clean and relatively quick, just bloody expensive.

Perhaps stopping in Puerto San Carlos, in Bahia Magdalena?

Re: Ensenada to La Paz

I've also heard of cruisers getting fuel at the main pier on the east side of Isla Cedros. If available, it is a much more reasonable price than at Turtle Bay.

Cheers, Bill

Bahia Ascension also has fuel available. We stopped there a number of years ago.

Thanks for the replies guys. It seems the consensus is there is fuel
On the island, substantially cheaper, but calling ahead to make sure they have
Some is the key

Re: Ensenada to La Paz

The main benefit of obtaining fuel at Turtle Bay is that they can fit 100 gallons into an 80 gallon tank that is already 1/4 full.

Wow! That’s like an echo around here. Everybody says exactly the
Same thing about the quantity issue there.

Re: Ensenada to La Paz

We just made the passage from Ensenada to La Paz. The only fuel was at turtle bay. Was warned to bring pesos and did thankfully. 100 gallons did the trick for us. Paid about 8 bucks a gallon. Wanted a 100 bucks more if we were to pay in dollars.
Cheers

You don’t need fuel till you get past Cabo, just sail!

Re: Ensenada to La Paz

Turtle Bay has a fuel pump on the pier. You can take your jerry cans and fill them, about $7 a gallon.

Fuel pier at Cabo San Jose, Puerto de Cabos (15nm beyond Cabo San Lucas) this is an easy quick stop. Call on 22 vhf, about $7 a gallon. Mini mart there also; for ice, sundries & tacos.

Re: Ensenada to La Paz

Yes, we stayed a couple nights in Los Cabos. Excellent stop for fuel an a cool town to boot. $125 a night for our 60ft sport fisher.
Cheers
