Re: bayliner 3255 express cruiser

Thanks so much for the speedy answer.

Follow up on fuel

I just bought the Bayliner 3255 Avanti 1995. It has twin mercruiser 5.7 liter 269 hp each. The boat weights 11000 pounds before people, gas etc. On my test run it ran a comfotable hull speed of 7.5 to 8 knots. On plane at 2800 rpm and at 3000 rpm cruises comfotably at about 25 knots (ignoring wing and current. WOT at 4000 RPM it runs at 30 to 32 knots depending on wind and current.

What is your best estimate of hourly fuel comsumption in gallons for the two engines combined at

Hull Speed
Cruising speed
WOT

Thanks in advance - I appreciate your help tremendously.

Best guesstimate.

About hull speed 2-4 GPH
3,000 RPM around 16-18 GPH
4,000 RPM around 32-35 GPH

Load, water condition, trim tab adjustment all play a role. Hard to know exactly without flow meters which while pricy make sense on planing boats with large fuel consumption.

The old adage applies to large power boats. Speed costs, how fast do ya wanna go?

Re: bayliner 3255 express cruiser

We brought the current 3250 with twin gas 350's from Kenmore, WA to Bellingham at 12-15 knots in an SCA and burned 100 Gallons on a 90 nm trip. We got the boat to clean up and flip. Nice boat, runs well, sleeps seven and has heat and hot/cold running water ect.. Gonna make someone a nice boat for around 15K. Would like to keep her but can't. Did surprisingly well in bad conditions, even getting caught in cross waves of 8-10' on the beam between some islands. I was surprised at the economy....
