Re: OK, what did you forget?

I about left for a week long motorcycle ride from Florida to Canada without my passport.

Left the boat in Bermuda for 6 months over the winter. Forgot to throw out a half dozen unrefrigerated eggs before leaving. Fortunately, the shells were not breached and it was not as horrid as it could have been.

Re: OK, what did you forget?

Luggage tag hung over the ignition key with "Check the shore power cord" written on it.

Re: OK, what did you forget?

I never forget anything..... But I took on a new gal crew member for an overnight race on the Columbia River. When my wife drove her back to the marina two days later, the police had left a note on her car. She'd left her car RUNNING in the marina parking lot...with keys in it, obviously. The police then went to her house to check on her...and found her door unlocked with lit CANDLES burning in her home. That tops anything I've done! Sheesh!

Re: OK, what did you forget?

So happy to see the steering wheel stories, I thought I was the only one in the sailing universe that had done it. I had the wheel leaning against the bikini stays to allow easier access through the cockpit, and just before departing the marina a bunch of friends offered to do the lines for me. In an effort to then hurry up a bit I put her in reverse and went to spin the wheel after making a bit of way and it wasn't there. It's amazing what goes through your mind at a time like this. I managed to reinstall it in record time before hitting anyone, between I returned a few weeks later, I found out my new nickname was "steering wheel" even from people I had never met

Re: OK, what did you forget?

Low Hanging fruit-

Nobody has mentioned launching a trailerable without installing the drain plug! Had a 16 foot Hydrodyne with a 4 cylinder Volvo I/O. My triple feat was- no plug, transom straps still on and trailer wheels over the dropoff at the end of the short ramp. Transom deeply submerged, couldn't launch boat, couldn't pull it back up due to weight. Couldn't reach plug from inside due to engine placement. Had to dive in to put plug in, then bail (no pump), then pull her out.

Anyone who says they haven't forgotten the drain plug at least once, they are lying. Every boater on the planet has done it.
