Hope they all recover, really poor decision by the skipper but I guess he was under the influence.

I am wondering was this an “aground” situation or an “over ground” one, is the difference a mere presence or absence of water?

From the damage to the house I would say airborne after over ground. I'm surprised there weren't fatalities, and yes hope they all recover.
