New Org for Anchor Rights

Check out the new Mariner's BARR organization which stands for anchoring rights. Type in Mariner's BARR on facebook and join, its free and provides cruisers news of anchoring battles we fight here in Florida. The website is Boaters' Anchoring Rights & Responsbilities - Protecting Boaters' Historical Legal Right To Anchor. It looks like they have 490 members so far so lets see how far it will go and maybe we can be stronger together.

I must have been anchoring in the wrong??? places in Florida the last 50 yrs. Have never had any problems at good anchorages...

I'll second that - but then again I like anchorages away from concentrations of houses and other boats. . .

A few questions....are they running boats off in those sea side developments and who is actually doing the running off?

If the chewer doesn't have a badge to show the chewee, what makes you move?

What happens if you tell some local LEO who is ill informed or ignores the greater good or law...... just write the ticket! Then what?

in fla, you can anchor almost anywhere---LEGALLY. you cannot in mooring fields and a few other spots but for the most part, it's legal to anchor in state waters...of course the local cowboys can hassle you and even haul you to jail for some trumped up charge and who has the money/time to fight them? lake sylvia in lauderdale is a prime example of this... but if you are courtious and are not in a sinking wreck you'll probably be o.k. for awhile...

The Florida Pilot Program was created to allow five areas to institute anchoring and mooring regulations in conjunction with approved mooring fields. Already St. Augustine is well on the way to instituting a 10-day anchoring limit before requiring boats to pick up a mooring, Monroe County in the Keys is looking into anchoring restrictions in various places, Martin County is investigating putting a mooring field in at Jensen Beach and then restricting anchoring, and of course Sarasota is plodding ahead with its mooring field along with threats of restricting anchoring anywhere within miles. So the threat to anchoring in Florida is real. Here are better links to the new organization fighting these things:
