Scary.
The account is full of good information on how to keep the boat well prepared for an emergency and how a good outcome comes from keeping a cool head. But I just keep thinking that if this had happened in colder waters the stranded crew would have perished. I need to re-read this account and provision my boat some more.

Wow, quite a lucky bunch of sailors to have hailed such a caring and resourceful crew... This story is very much like the one told in the book "Black Wave" in that case it was a 50+ ft CAT that made contact with a reef and SANK ! Well, perhaps more accurately, disintegrated in just a couple of hours. I now have a very great respect for reefs, not that I didn't before... In the book "Black Wave" the mast falls and essentially severs the leg of the Captain… the Wife, older son and the EPIRB saved the 5 of them as I recall… in that case no one heard the Mayday… The book is great, I couldn’t put it down… This case had a better ending, they were just very , very lucky…

Kind of makes you apreciate what resources we really do have and an I opener on what others really do not have in the way of capabilities..Good on the crew of the S/V Ocealy's and many happy days to them.
