1008 cases dengue this year confirmed in Panama as of last week. Why so bad this year in so many places in the Caribbean?

Re: Dengue in the Bahamas

lowly skeeter has a lot of water sitting around in which to grow.
tropical environment, lots of water=many skeeters. many skeeters=spread of much disease.
dengue has no vaccine......

Only folks who have lived in UK will get this. Nobody else knows what a Lilo is.

Re: Dengue in the Bahamas

dengue, needs, a few things for transmision,a warm climate, stagnant water, people to carry it andDengue is transmitted by several species of mosquito within the genus Aedes, principally A. aegypti mosquitos to spread it.

malaria is also spreading for the same reasons

I think I read somewhere about 25 cases in Florida this year.
As far as I know Aedes aegypti (mosquito) prefers stagnant clear water and bites during the day, usually dusk and dawn.

First, they say the mosquito that transmits DF feeds during the day, 2nd, cases are from people who came to Florida and picked it up outside the country.

Tom
problem with picking it up outside then coming in--- they feed skeeters with infected blood and then m ore infectious skeeters.....and greater area of infection.
