Change a User Name ?
Is there a way to change my username?
It came to my attention that I have a different definition of River Rat than most others! I always thought it was someone that spent more time on a river as a casual boater than on the sea as an accomplished sailor. Plus, I liked the alliteration!
I'm new to the forum and only have a dozen or so posts. It would not be the end of the world if I just got rid of RiverRat and created a new username. I hope to participate for quite awhile as we plan to cruise. So, don't want to be stuck with a username with negative connotations.
Maybe I shouldn't be so concerned? Maybe I should just stick with it and let everyone else adjust?

We can do this for you, Kitty - why don't you send me a PM letting me know what you'd like your new User Name to be.

Hmmm...
That's my definition as well.
Anyway we can change usernames but it is a help desk item. At the bottom of the screen is a contact us link.
Send a message with your preferred username - might search the member list to make sure it's not taken. And someone can take care of it.

I spent a large portion of my "growing up" years on the rivers and creeks of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. To be called a "River Rat" was a compliment.

Thanks to all of you! Tao and Ex-Calif for offering to do the work necessary to change my username and for the rest of you for making me feel better about RiverRat.
I should never have doubted myself! Guess I was a little intimidated about joining such a great group of experienced cruisers when we're just getting started. You wouldn't believe how much I've learned in just a few short weeks!
I'm gonna embrace my inner rat and keep the RiverRat username.

The first choice is usually the best choice, RiverRat . . . I like it!

I like River Rat for all the reasons others have said here. Plus no matter what Ocean you sail you will always be in contact with your roots!
After a friend of mine who is on this forum questioned my user name and said it made him think I was well, 'loose', I explained to him the sailing connotations, as well, as the fact that I never wear high heels, that if I ever had my own race boat I wanted to name her that, and I sold shoes at Nordstrom right out of college...but I have to say I questioned whether I should change mine too after that exchange...but then remembered he doesn't have a lot of sailing experience yet, owns a trawler, and didn't get it.

The fact that at least one member is in line willing to take your screen name answers your question - cool name.
By the way I have reserved RiverRat1, RiverRat2, RiverRat3 and RiverRat*
These names can be released for the very low sum of a 75cent donation to the plankton fund...
