I cannot. They (opinions and answers) may, and probably do, exist, however never having been in the market for one it is impossible for me to reliably provide a response. What I am saying is that both opinion and lack thereof may have reasons unrelated to the question, so every response should be taken with a grain of salt, but with several grains of doubt.

I have also sailed many of the more modern cruising boats and my personal preferences are bent towards newer designs, built with traditional stick built methods but offering better sailing abilities as well as better performance in a wide range of wind and sea conditions.

The numbers you mentioned in this post are very similar to the numbers I posted for my boat when singlehanding.

So I'm not sure what I need to be educated on concerning newer designs?

Cracking off 160 mile days in your Yankee 30 was really moving along. My average back in those days covering several Pacific crossings in 36 foot boats was around 135 miles days using spinaker in winds under 15 knots. I was happy with those results and best days were in the low 170's. Even moving up with my Tartan 44 I was only able to average in the 140's and I was sailing it on the hard side. Winds of course and current make all the difference in the world but I've found if your getting 130 to 160 miles per day on a 40 footer on average your doing quite well.

I'm really curious if anybody has actually sailed a HC 33 for an extensive period of time in all kinds of weather like obviously I have?!
It seems like a lot of people on here give opinions based on hearsay rather then actuall facts! I've never sailed a Tayana or a baba or lord Nelson, etc....I have friends that own them and are currently cruising around the world and having a great time doing it!!

I guess my point is, to each your own. I wouldn't trade my HC 33 for any of the production boats out there but that's me. I like my boat and I'm comfortable sailing in it! It takes care of me and I can store more stuff in it then most 40' sailboats out there, truly a great design IMHO.

My advice to every one, buy the boat YOU LIKE, go sailing and to hell with the know it alls and with the naysayers
