British Hunter 356

Hi, I am the owner of a bilge keel 2003 Hunter356. I am finding it very difficult to find anyone this side of the pond with any knowledge on my boat. I have a water pump">raw water pump leaking and need to repair or replace it. There is no sea cock on the sail drive to shut the water off. the sea strainer is high on the wall above the water line. Can i just unscrew the basket on the filter to stop the siphon and remove the pump?

Re: British Hunter 356

Well if the inlet strainer is above the waterline then yes opening that stops any siphon

But

I find in impossible to believe that a seawater supply on the boat doesn't have a valve. That would be just crazy.

Second, if with the engine had a siphon going on you would already have destroyed the engine by filling the exhaust up.

BTW on my boat (Hunter 410) my engine supply seawater valve leaks by a little so when I do my seawater pump impeller I return the inlet hose (easier to remove the hose to get to the pump than to work around it) and stick a plug into it while doing the work.

Go here and ask other owners. This is the second time this year I have read of a "British bilge keel" Hunter

Re: British Hunter 356

After closely looking again at the sail drive there is a valve. Small and not what i expected hiding under the exhaust. The leaking out of the raw water pump is only drips. I will shut off the valve when I remove the pump. Thanks for responding back to me!
