Re: Bavaria Yachtbau filed for bankruptcy

I am not surprised. A friend bought a new 36 from them and spent many years and many many $ trying to make it work. Got frustrated and sold cheap just to get rid of it.

Some people like cats, some like mono's. It would be a boring place if we all liked the same things.
Beneteau build Beneteau and Jeneau mono hulls, Lagoon Cats, power boats of different types and even holiday homes. Fountaine Pajot is in talks with Dufour right now. Bavaria bought Nautitech Catamarans back in 2010, so the consolidation in the boating industry continues to roll on, the recent failures seem to stem from private equity financial backers pulling out eg Bavaria and Oyster. FP, Lagoon and Catana are French public companies. A US private equity group recently bought Moorings/Leopard. These PE guys usually want a good return for their money, not motivated by boating passion or mono hull vs multihull - just money.

Most if not all big mono builders including Bavaria have indeed done that, few years back now...

Re: Bavaria Yachtbau filed for bankruptcy

Sorry to hear that, as it will impact a lot customers and all their employees.

To be honest, I always wondered how landlocked "Bavaria" was able to compete in the fibre-glass mass-production boating market...

These companies' websites show that they are privately owned, Beneteau by the Beneteau family holding company as an example (and Lagoon is Beneteau), or Fountaine Pajot by "La Compagnie du catamaran", Catana by the Catana group formerly Olivier Poncin group if I remember well.

Re: Bavaria Yachtbau filed for bankruptcy

Slight correction: the company went into voluntary administration, did not file for bankruptcy.
The two major investors are hedge fund investors, clearly not interested in the business, only the money and short term gain.

Taking Beneteau as the example, Beneteau family owns 54% the rest is free float (ie public) any one can buy those free float shares. The company's shares are listed on the Stutgart Exchange , you can buy a share for 18.94 Euro - so they are public companies, that is why you can get to read their financial reports and can see what the top executives are paid etc etc . You can argue about who might control them, but they are still public companies by definition. Stock | BÉNÉTEAU Stock Price Today | Markets Insider

Re: Bavaria Yachtbau filed for bankruptcy

Self administration in Germany gives them maybe 3 months to sort it out.
https://www.rsmgermany.de/en/what-we...istration.html

Directors would likely put the company into administration to avoid creditor liability claims for trading whilst insolvent.
