Alternative to australian private yacht rego

Hi all,
Does anyone have experience with being an Australian purchasing a private vessel over sea and flaggig it elsewere than Australia?
Reason being the Australian registration is less than straight forward, quite a few hoops the jump through and quite expensive. Not exactly ruling it out, just seeking possible better/easier options.

The regulations only require registration for clearing out and don't mention clearing in. I have a friend who has been clearing both in and out for years as a fishing boat registered overseas. If you are just going to bring a boat into Australia you might just pre-register it in its intended home state and use those details in the paper work. The important thing is probably to have a good bill of sale for the vessel to document title.

Are you bringing the boat back to Oz? If not, then Langkawi is a good option. Easy, , cheap, no duty etc. You can pay an agent to take care of the paperwork.
