re: Anchor DIY

Anchor design is a really tough business...

Of course you CAN steal someone else's design, but if you change ANYTHING, it's not the same anymore.

Anchor design is VERY empirical, and requires a lot of testing and refinement. It's a constant job of "back to the drawing board." Not only for performance testing, but also strength, weight distribution, etc, etc.

Just because it LOOKS kinda like a duck, doesn't make it a duck...

I have trusted my boat, and quite literally my life, to a Rocna, and a Mantus. To a "storm", not so much...

re: Anchor DIY

There was a lot of testing.
Anchor storm hold 30-60% beter than Mantus.

re: Anchor DIY

"This anchor is specially designed and will not unhook from the ground."

I stopped paying much attention after this. Also, all the video links are broken from what I can tell.

Honestly, distributing template files so that people can more easily rip off a commercial design strikes me as a tad unethical.

Adding a few elements from other anchor designs does not necessarily make your design better.

And dragging a few miniature models through some coarse sand does not constitute testing from which you can claim "30-40% better performance".

While I applaud anyone's efforts to build a better mousetrap, I think copying someone else's design so closely and then claiming yours is dramatically better without any real data is a bit beyond the pale.

Yeah ... nothing says "sleep well" quite like a homemade knockoff anchor.

It is no my problem that you do not belive me. I was working on this project 6 mounths with my friends And I know what I am writing. But I am writing to the people which want to make DIY anchor. I am sorry but I do not have time to dispute with you. Who will make the anchor by my .dxf file will say that I was writing the true.

re: Anchor DIY

The diference is in the angle between fluke and shank.
Shank is also taller, so the fluke go dipper in ground.

The diference is also in the holes. Al this holes are not for better look. There is a big diference.
(Is it not the same if you drive in the mud with motorbike with slick tires or with motocros tires.

This is open code project.
I am posting this that someone start the project where I have finished and improve the anchor and share it with all sailors on the world.

re: Anchor DIY

I may have misunderstand your intent, but it seems you have developed a DIY anchor that very closely resembles a Mantus anchor...but what's more, your pictures show that you have cut a Mantus M copyrighted logo into it to deliberately mislead by claiming that it is somehow associated with that company. Why? And you blatantly name the post "Mantus DIY". You are infringing on copyright laws, not to mention being quite unethical.
