Cruising from Texas to Isla mujeres

Hi, can anyone provide current requirements for sailing to Mexico? I’ve been researching and data is a little old for most of the info I’m reading. Without explaining the conflicting info perhaps someone has been there recently. It’s just husband and I and our small dog (all vaccines updated) Passports, vessel doc includes title, insurance with boat displaying HULL identification number on hull. Everything else is obtained through marine office or ? A TIP temporary import permit? How do I find out if previous owners had one and cancelled it? We don’t know them and probably won’t be able to kbtsin this information. Also many have said the online process doesn’t work. That kbtsinjng your permit st the marina is the only way to do this. Thank you !!! From there we may make our way to Belize. Anything different required? Also a ZARPE from port of exit ? Thank you

Cant’t help you with the Pet question, there is a facebook page called Isla Mujeras Cruisers Net that may be worth joining if you are coming down from the east coast

I think that the previous owners TIP is not transferable to the new owners but it is only US$62

You will need a Zarpe (or the equivalent) whenever you leave any country

Since January of this year (2018) we have heard that the Navy have taken over from the Port Captain, I do not know if/how this has changed things

You do not have to use an agent but reports on the VHF net indicated the officials give you a real run around if you do not and it takes much longer. The Medical centre is now 10 minutes by car/taxi south of El Milagro/ Marina Paraiso

You will also need 5 copies of all the paperwork from the country you have come from plus the originals and 5 copies of the boat papers and passports, if you do not have the copies the agent should be able to copy them for you

Whole process took one and half days (probably due to Easter holidays) we are told normally it is completed within 1 day . We were at anchor so we used Julio at El Milagro as the agent, if you have your boat at their Marina the Agent's cost is US$50

3rd Hand rumours are that the agent at Marina Parasio is more fussy, less flexible, more expensive and you MUST be on the Marina

Julio also prepared the pack of papers for the tempory Importada (TIP) processing and provided other help and assistance

For the Customs TIP, it is necessary to go to Cancun within a few days of arrival

• Importada Temporary Importation (TIP) 10 years $62.00 US$ cash or Credit/Debit Cards only

How to get there
• Ultramar ferry from Isla Mujeras to Puerto Juarez Peso300 return per person
• Come out of the Ferry terminal turn right
• Walk for about 10 mins, past Navy base and Captain Hook terminal
• When you get to Club Nautico Bar on beach on your right, across the road is a Government building

Go in and go to far right corner to the desk labelled "Banjercito " and see Senora Elizebeth, she speaks some English

Papers for TIP provided by Julio (These are in addition to the check in paperwork)

What we discovered was not needed for TIP

Information Needed for TIP but not included in paper pack from the agent

• View of Original Owners Passport and ships papers
• Ships engine Number
• Owner's address, email and telephone number
• In our case as only 1 side of the ships papers had been photocopied by Julio, so the papers in the pack were missing the owners address (which is on the back of the UK Part 1 ships papers) so we had to provide another copy with the address

Other Notes
• Senora Elizebeth suggested taking photocopies of the TIP ASAP
• Senora Elizebeth told us to put the "hologram" up in a window where it could be seen clearly

TIP Summary
Very easy, quick process, Club Nautico Bar across the road has Peso 30 beers, complimentary fish soup and good food

Total cost for Check in and TIP $334.86

Upon arrival in MX you'll need to present this along with crew lists, etc. We arrived several years ago with our dog, we brought every medical receipt that I had ever received for the dog, as well as checking online for every possible vaccine that would be required. Other than the bureaucratic dance, the dog was no problem.

Using an agent to clear you in costs very little when you consider the time you'd spend going back and forth completing forms and contacting various agencies. We used Chepo at Paraiso, but also heard good things about the guy at milagro.
