New to Cruisers Forum

I recently joined CF and wanted to introduce myself - I own and sail my LeComte NE 38, Sequitur, which I have moored in Sag Harbor, NY for the past 20 years. We love this boat, Sag Harbor and cruising in New England, CT, MA, RI, Cape Islands and especially Maine. I have also chartered a good bit on larger boats in Greece, Caribbean and New England. I am looking forward to learning from this Cruiser's community and sharing experiences with other members. I am planning to sell my 38' sloop in the next year or so and move up to a 49' sloop. I have been looking at a several designs including Swan 48, Hylas 46, 47 and 49 and given that I single hand quite a bit and often sail short-handed - and also looking for cruising comfort with good performance but not racing type sailing, I have been leaning toward the Hylas 49. Would love to connect with those of you with direct experience on these boats. Best wishes Paul.

Re: New to Cruisers Forum

Dear Don,

Thnx for the welcome. What sort of sailing do you do / on what waters in what sort of boat?

One of the things I love about sailing is the opportunity to be in nature, working with the elements, and always having the opportunity to learn something new. Also, it is hard to top the experience of arriving to a new harbor for the first time having sailed there.

Best wishes,

Paul

check out pic of my boat attached (I think)

Re: New to Cruisers Forum

Thanks, Paul! I started sailing many years ago as a teenager in Miami. Life took me to many places, including Australia, where I was when I joined this site - thus my moniker. Now I live in Israel. My boat is a Colvic Watson motorsailer; she's sitting pretty on the River Hamble in England right now. This summer, I plan to sail her to Greece and base her there at least for 2-3 years. I've lived in Greece in the past, did some small boat sailing back then and more revently, I chartered s Jenneau in the Sporades. Athens is just a two-hour flight from Tel Aviv. I don't see any extended, full time cruising on the close horizon, but if/when I tire of Greece, there's always Turkey, Croatia...

Enjoy!

Don

Re: New to Cruisers Forum

Sequitur is lovely! Yes, nothing like pulling into a pristine anchorage for the first time! Good luck with the deciding, then shopping for the bigger boat!

Re: New to Cruisers Forum

Don,

Greece is a fantastic place to sail. We chartered a 50' Beneteau in the Cyclades and had a wonderful sail - lots of wind, nice small waterfront villages and taverns. Don't miss Delos, island of the gods and hike up to the amphitheater and ruins - amazing ingenuity in water way engineering and beautiful mosaic tile work...

Enjoy!

Paul

Welcome to the forum. We have a Hylas 54 and absolutely love it. My wife and I sail it a couple thousand miles here in the great lakes every summer.

Re: New to Cruisers Forum

Hello from former Long Islander's. We used to sail out of Mt. Sinai and Greenport. Spring and fall sailing was the best I've ever had!
