Seawind 1160 water tank issue

I am looking at buying a Seawind 1160 or 1250. I have heard of a few instances of the 1160 having water tank issues at about 5/6 years old, just out of warranty, how convenient. Does anyone have any information about this, cost of repair, does the 1250 suffer the same issue? I know of about 4 instances of this and it seems to be concentrated on pre Vietnam built 1160.

My understanding is that damage is caused by overfilling or more precisely too much pressure from the dock based hose.Overflow cannot cope and tank expands and cracks.Fill at a lesser pressure and no problems.

PM me I will send you a copy of the Service Bulletin. Mirage Gecko is correct, its a problem of too much pressure. You should be able to check the boat you are interested in. I note your comment about warranty, at least if you buy a Seawind under 5 years you get the warranty as a second hand buyer, many (in fact most) companies have the warranty ONLY applicable after the first 12 months to the original owner.

Our 1160 is 1.5 years old and has the plastic water & fuel tank. Water tank is accessible from under the settee area and seems to be the same structure and quality of the fuel tank however I would not want to have to remove this as it would be a major PIA. I have not heard about leaks etc from these tanks even when overfilled which is a common occurance if you forgot the hose is on

I had a Seawind 1160 #12 for 8 years & no water tank issues. Loved the boat.
