Re: Raymarine SeatalkNG cable question

OK. Did the initial install today. Connected the Seatalk - SeatalkNG converter to one end of my NMEA2000 backbone per instructions. Powered up and the Simrad AP controller immediately found it and...

Re: Raymarine SeatalkNG cable question

Raymarine tech support specifically said to connect the SeatalkNG backbone (blue) to the NMEA2000 backbone, not to an NMEA2000 drop or from a Seatalk spur.

- Use a...

Re: Raymarine SeatalkNG cable question

In my case I don't have a Seatalk bus but just a single Seatalk instrument, an ST40 Bidata display. The speed and depth transducers connect to the ST40 and get their power from from it. The ST40...

Re: Raymarine SeatalkNG cable question

Thanks. Was that a Raymarine manufactured cable with STng connector on one end and a Devicenet connector on the other?

Did you connect the Vesper as a spur/drop directly onto the Raymarine...

Re: Raymarine SeatalkNG cable question

I think I saw a reference to this during the course of my research. Just skimmed it and moved on as I was focused on figuring out the current project but I think that would be a plus for Raymarine...

Re: Raymarine SeatalkNG cable question

I do and that's the plan. I think I even have all the bits and pieces to put it all together so will give this a go next week. Wish me luck. :thumb:

Re: Raymarine SeatalkNG cable question

One aspect of the whole NMEA thing that has taken a bit of work for me has been learning the terminology used by the different manufacturers, made more complicated because they like to use cool...

Re: Raymarine SeatalkNG cable question

I don't think so unless I'm still confused on some of the details.

I went onto the Raymarine tech support forums and asked about this issue and got a very detailed reply from the Raymarine tech...

Re: Raymarine SeatalkNG cable question

As I understand it and according to Raymarine, they are 100% standard NMEA2000 compatible with their SeatalkNG system (but not the old Seatalk) except for the connectors that are specific to...

Re: Raymarine SeatalkNG cable question

Hi Jay and thanks for the reply.

Here's where I'm at on the converter.

Yellow plug. That one was pretty clear and I'm connecting the included cable from that to the Seatalk plug on the...

Re: Raymarine SeatalkNG cable question

Thank you. This confirms what I was finally starting to figure out.

I originally planned to connect the converter as a drop to a T on the n2k network but Raymarine tech support...

Re: Raymarine SeatalkNG cable question

OK, after RTFM for the umteenth time AND going back to the Raymarine forums AND looking more closely at the converter and cables I think I have answered my own question.

The Raymarine SeatalkNG...

Re: Raymarine SeatalkNG cable question

I looked at the original question and realized it was not very clear, so let me try to simplify, leaving out all the extraneous details.

Raymarine for their SeatalkNG systems refers to spur cables...

Raymarine SeatalkNG cable question

I am connecting my old Seatalk speed and depth display to my NMEA2000 network. That requires several steps. First I need a Raymarine converter to turn the old Seatalk signals into the NMEA2000...
