Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Dykstra has a hand for designing beautiful yachts. This year I was anchored in Sorrento not far from this beauty: ... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
No and I am not interested in discussing laminates. Regarding this thread it is not only about a particular boat but also about the qualities of aluminium as a yacht building material and its... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Yes of course, that is why it is called a carbon/Kevlar hull and kevlar is used only on the outside part of the core for impact resistance but you are wrong in assuming that the main composition of... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
I don't know about that but I do know that the US Navy had changed the Aluminium hull of their 82-ft 57-ton SEALS patrol boats for a Carbon/Kevlar one and I don't think it was for a question of... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
I confess I don't know almost nothing about the use of kevlar in hulls but I assume that the composite engineers that work for Comet, Bavaria and other brands that use kevlar reinforcements for... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Yes there are plenty of brands that have kevlar reinforcement on the most probable impact zones on the hull (including Bavaria) however is not that what they have on Comar 46 explorer but a full... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
The Bestwind 50 is pretty much a semi custom boat and I bet that they can make it in different types of "plastic". Some types would probably not be cheaper than aluminium and probably not less strong... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Some years ago they test sailed for the European boat of the year a Bestwind 50 (that has some similitude with a Bestevaer) under very heavy conditions. I like the boat and I has expecting that it... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Regarding carbon masts I had no idea that maintenance was a lot more expensive then on aluminium masts till I saw some days ago a sister boat of mine having its aluminium spar taken out for... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Yes I agree. The Bestevaer has a relatively narrow hull and will not gain much with water ballasts. It is a boat that will sail with much more heel than a Cigale. On that one the water ballasts make... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Canting keels are great but complicated and very expensive. A boat having a canting keel does not mean that he is not made to sail better at considerable angles of heel. That depends mostly of hull... |
