A note on the decision to abandon:

The skipper from "The Perfect Storm" sailboat (a Westsail 32) had a crew member radio for help without his knowledge. The story is here...

I disagree on both counts. Both your sources are non sailors working on limited information. The only people right now who have a clue about the boat are Eric and Charlotte.

I don't think it is useful or appropriate to speculate on what could or could not have made their child unwell. I guarantee they will tell us in great and honest detail when the time is right.
