Going back to page 2. The operation I needed to have (broken femur, not a simple boot cast) cost over $12,000. NOT pocket change. Wouldn't work for me.

Could someone explain how that would work?

I broke my leg skiing five years ago. There wasn't a whole lot of time between the break and surgery to fill out insurance applications.
