good-oh,Kojiro! ...and, yes , you can have a "data stream" and no fix! just keep in mind that Windows is not your friend when it comes to Port#'s and you'll be fine!

... This exact message OFTEN means your gps port # has changed, or the gps isn't on, or it hasn't got access to the gps, so OpenCPN can't find it when starting. OpenCPN remembers your configuration...

I think it's pretty standard that a gps usb or serial can only be used by one app at a time and that it's best if the device is plugged in before you start the app.
That's why I like the port...

Kojiro, I'm glad you are persevering and making some progress. With these kind of troubles, it's very difficult to separate computer Operating system and hardware driver issues from OpenCPN....

Kojiro, I think captstu means the "Coldstart" button in "GPSInfo" -the supplementary software he mentioned... If my memory serves, Sirfdemo (in Post 2) also has a "cold start" feature.

gps can only be used by one app at a time,without a port emulator.

Can you find what "Port" Coastal Explorer sees the gps?And then set OpenCPN to the same in the GPS settings?You have already read the OpenCPN helpfile... and I don't have CE but most Nav...
