Not offset... The ring and sun gears share a common axis. I imagine the ring gear being the pulley, the sun gear fixed on the alternator shaft, and the carrier for the planet gears held... |

Could one build an alternator pulley with a planetary gear set enclosed within the body of the pulley so that the drive belt turns the ring gear, the carrier is held motionless, and the sun gear... |
