It's just a good reminder that a news journalist is not an expert (usually) in the field they're covering. Just imagine what happens when they try to cover something more complicated than a sailboat...

I'm not commenting much on the design of the vessel so much as the operator who regardless of how he did it managed to kill two of his passengers.

The guy who took it is a friend of mine; we did our 100 ton captain's class together and he owns a boat yard up in Maine. He was on the news last night, and I sent the photo to the police last night....

I wouldn't go anywhere without a chart for sure. GPS is pretty stable these days but even without it you can keep a pretty good DR going provided you have somewhere to chart it.

I'm a stones throw from there; creepy. That picture in the NBC piece is from the boat launch ramp. Maybe they were using that for the rescue area.
