This make the dinghy look good for a life boat. Nothing works in extreme conditions anyway. With the great weather reporting now there is no excuse to get caught in extreme weather anyway.

^ You can barely squeeze four people in a four man life raft. If 5 people start the voyage and it comes down to boarding a life raft, I doubt that there will be 5 live people to board the raft so...

I have heard a lot of stories where the life raft blew away when needed. I don't think anything works well in extreme conditions. Some would just prefer to die like a gentleman.

When is a life raft desirable? Protected waters, coastal, or offshore? Does water temperature of your cruising area influence the decision? Does boat size matter?
