Re: Waves always look small on video...

I think it's simply that we're looking at them on a computer screen. So yeah, no real sense of scale.

I can't really see how the boat would be rising and falling MORE than the waves....

Re: Waves always look small on video...

Rubbish. The weather on the east coast of Aus at Christmas time can be just about anything.

But strong northeasterlies are certainly not rare.

Re: Waves always look small on video...

So fastest multi, 45 days, fastest mono 78 days. And a bunch of excuses.

So that's settled, can we get back to the topic, which HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MONOHULLS.

Bollux, we know you love...

Re: Waves always look small on video...

So you're saying the mono can sail at 30 knots for 24 hours?

By 40-42 kts I meant the speed was BETWEEN 40 and 42 knots. As it was.

And Banque Populaire averaged 33 knots across the...

Re: Waves always look small on video...

Of course, this is absolute rubbish. BP is holding a steady 40-42 kts, Ragamuffin BRIEFLY touched 38, mostly around 30. Also BP was clearly in lighter wind.

The difference is huge. 240+ miles...

Re: Waves always look small on video...

Then why does he post the videos? They have absolutely nothing to do with the topic. There aren't any big waves in them. Even so, the crews looked like they'd drown any minute...

BTW the St...

Re: Waves always look small on video...

The crew on that little Leopard looked more comfortable than any of these.

Speaking of comfort:

Re: Waves always look small on video...

Exactly. This is basically a built-for-charter production boat, not some specialist racer.

Re: Waves always look small on video...

And my statement before was that DDW mono's are not comfortable.

But yes, I'll admit - a 100 foot mono going to windward in 30 knots would very likely be more comfortable than a 25 foot cat....

Re: Waves always look small on video...

Don't know what it looks like from the planet Pollux inhabits, but the video was pretty obviously (IMO) of a boat sailing DOWNWIND.

But of course in his unrelenting efforts to turn every single...

Have you ever tried actually discussing what someone has said?

Re: Waves always look small on video...

Wrong. Try sailing on a cat, rather than just continually demonstrating your lack of real knowledge.

DDW on a cruising mono is.... projectile vomiting comes to mind.
