Re: Ancor crimper rant

I tried backing off on the tension adjustment. When I get to the point that the crimpers no longer damage the heat shrink cover, they no longer crimp strong enough on the wire, either.

It's...

Re: Ancor crimper rant

You're right. Sorry to get off on a rant. I've just been dealing with our health insurance company here. Guess what. Yeah, they just tried for a massive ripoff. I don't know whether to be upset...

Re: Ancor crimper rant

Here, sadly, in ten years we have learned it's safest to just assume that whomever you are dealing with is in the process of actively looking for a way to rip you off. From the top government...

Re: Ancor crimper rant

We had the postmaster herself rip us off recently. Blatantly. She even made two fake phone calls "to Customs" to verify that yes, the duty on marine imports had gone back up from 10 to 30% just...

Re: Ancor crimper rant

If you mail something here you would actually do better to just throw it in a trash bin at your end and save the postage. Cause it ain't getting to the recipient in most cases. Unless it's...

Re: Ancor crimper rant

I don't have the prime membership. We have all our stuff, Amazon and various other US vendors, ship to a consolidation and forwarding company in Sarasota, who then put it all in one box and send...

Re: Ancor crimper rant

I have a chromed Chinese copy of that and have been using it, too. But the nub breaks the shrink tubing if I'm not careful.

Re: Ancor crimper rant

Thanks. I'm one of Amazons better customers these days. They've done well replacing things that went missing and handling credits etc. Perhaps they'll send this overnight, which of course...

Re: Ancor crimper rant

Well, I just received my new Ancor wire stripper, but somehow the new crimper missed the shipment. Gee. Thanks Amazon. So here I sit, a week and a half later, about to just say to hell with it...

Re: Ancor crimper rant

Actually, YOU guys solved my problem. Thanks for all the input. Nice to have the benefit of Maine Sail's expertise.

I feel like I wasted a hundred bucks or so (cost, shipping, duty, fees) but...

Re: Ancor crimper rant

I'm not having an issue with the quality of the wire, for the most part. At least, not the original 1985 wire. I do have some issues with wires of various sizes and colors running all over the...

Re: Ancor crimper rant

I really wish that Amazon and other online sellers would be required to list the country of origin/manufacture on their goods. Sure would save me a lot of time and aggravation. And money. ...

Re: Ancor crimper rant

I just ordered the Ancor version, plus an Ancor wire stripper/crimper tool. In the meantime, I'll continue to work using my old fishing plier crimper.

A very small set of Vise Grips works pretty...

Re: Ancor crimper rant

Thanks. Looking at the photo of that tool it now all makes perfect sense. Explains my issues with these crimps, and why my other little fishing leader crimper does a better job than a $ 75 tool....

Re: Ancor crimper rant

Well I bought an Ancor crimper and a bunch of Ancor connectors in different sizes. They're all Ancor. Nothing on the crimper says to use it with some of their connectors, but not their other...

Re: Ancor crimper rant

I'm the fourth owner of a 30 year old boat. The wiring is a mess. What I mean by "re-trimming" is when I'm working on a short piece of wire that's sticking out of a bulkhead or wire run. Typically...

Re: Ancor crimper rant

I typically hold the end of the soldering iron my my teeth for those, frees up both hands to hold the wires and shield the tip from the wind a little.

The crimper that works time and time again...
