Re: Importing a Boat to Australia

Thanks Monte, I hope you enjoy the delivery cruise home from France.

Whilst cost wasn't your primary concern, I think you'll be ahead financially over buying the same boat from the Australian...

Re: Importing a Boat to Australia

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Was your decision to buy new in France rather than from the Australian importers in order to cruise on the delivery home, or was there a significant cost saving...

Re: Importing a Boat to Australia

Congratulations and good luck with your import.

Nothing wrong with maintaining an AC 110 volt boat in private (non-charter) operation in Australia. As mentioned previously, an inverter powered by...

Re: Importing a Boat to Australia

At least there seemed to be a lot more interest in it than some of the big "sports cruiser" pose boats.
It's a solid boat that needs a tidy up and refit IMHO. In today's market buyers are wary of...

Re: Importing a Boat to Australia

Welcome and thanks for your contribution, kingnuggie.

Perhaps Australian Customs has done you a favour in not recognising your purchase price? The valuation that you had to pay a surveyor for...

Re: Importing a Boat to Australia

The boat itself was about A$250,000. So the import duty, GST and AQIS inspection works out to be about $50,000.
Ausaviator is pretty close to the mark, they quote about $70,000 for the handling and...

Re: Importing a Boat to Australia

I recently received a quote from one of those Australian brokerages who are advertising ex-charter cats from the Caribbean. The cat is a Leopard 42 and the cost of importation is approx AUD$125,000....

Re: Importing a Boat to Australia

Great to see quarantine issues discussed. It is relevant to this thread. Yachties can't be blamed for fire ants, but there are several species of termite (not an ant, dispite being commonly referred...

Re: Importing a Boat to Australia

Yes Double-Wide, it makes great sense for Australians to purchase overseas at the moment. This thread gives many examples of why this is so. The Australian domestic market seems to be slowly...
