Trade background in boat building on vessels up to 120ft in size.

Plenty of multi's sailing around over here with very basic rudder bearings with no issue as well

Why would he do that over getting bearings locally spun up in Australia?
Whats so special about them, seeing as they have possibly failed once already

Yes and Yes

Being tiller steer I had long rudder tubes and posts, approx 4ft, so couldn't pull 'em or put 'em back in while on a trolley

Put them back in the same way, dropped rope through...

I thought I was the only idiot to have used aluminium (anodised) tubes

I used Ralloy for the bearings so they didnt swell but did sand the inside of tube to get ralloy to bond to ally tube with...

No light in the rudder tube means no growth I believe

What are the bearings made from, is it possible they may have swollen slightly as some plastics are prone to do?
