I have found Kilz to be very hard to get a nice finish with. There is probably no reason to use it on a boat. It's good for sealing stains in a house because (i think) it contains shellac. Just use...

Prying with a bar will put a lot more force than a slide hammer. I cant help much more, because I really cant visualize the issue. If it's cut free it should come out easy... otherwise, something's...

hmmm.... so the tabbing is cut bottom, top and against the hull right? I guess you just need more force! apply the above pictured tool liberally!

Have you cut it into smaller pieces.. maybe with a skil saw? that would allow some leverage on each piece. or there's always this handy tool...::whistling: Hard to visualize what you're up against......

One option for cutting the tabbing we havent mentioned here is an air hammer with chisel point.... if you have air available. Not messy and quick. the V shaped chisel point keeps you in the cut well....

If you cant get the new bulkhead through the companionway (?) as one piece... why replace the whole bulkhead.... as a 2 piece unit? Just offering that thought.

You could just replace the under sidedeck portion of the bulkhead if the rest is solid. That's what's bearing most the chainplate load. Not sxure how it would look.....
