I was wrong about the Manganese... thought I deleted it immediately.. guess not!
Could have swore they said Silicon Bronze back when I bought a whole boat's worth of their stuff in the 80's....

Thanks for the info. 85-5-5-5 is what used to be known as Manganese Bronze right?
Spartan used to advertise their stuff as silicon bronze..... dont know if it still is...

and..... as posted earlier.... it makes a heck of a geyser in your boat when open. Probably in the range of a 1" diameter stream maybe 1.5 feet high...

You need a good soft plug that will form around those two nubs. Most sailboats dont have a strainer on the outside, does yours? For a temporary fix I would just use a gate valve or ball valve. The...

I think the Marelon valves are pretty amazing as far as material strength goes. Unfortunately, they seem to have taken the design and just left it pretty much as it started... didnt improve it along...

ball valves just dont have that big a shaft at the smallest cross section.... I'm surprised there arent more stories of them failing..... I'm a big proponant of tapered seacocks....
