DL
Aren't you in Australia? Just yesterday we went to a Clark Rubber store and got rubber for all the hatches. They have various shapes and sizes. We purchased the round solid type (7 mm) for the...

Re: Rudders - Steering

Hi DL,
Just the inners were replaced (the white nylon bearings) as well as cleaned up the rudder stocks. Although there was not much to indicate why the steering was so stiff it's all better now. I...

Re: Rudders - Steering

Regarding my original post of tight steering/rudder bearings.

We were just hauled out and the engineer inspected/dropped the rudders.

Re: Rudders - Steering

Update: We met with the FP Broker here in Aus (Multihull Solutions) last week and they really stepped up to the plate, even though we are just out of warranty. They are ordering bearings, and we...

Re: Rudders - Steering

I think we are seriously considering all options, and open to changing the design. Getting lots of opinions, why not improve the things if we can, we don't want to do this every year. Im sure it will...

Re: Rudders - Steering

Someone suggested just drying out and only having to drop the rudders down a bit to get to the lower bearings. I guess I need to get some diagrams and a real idea of what's involved. I don't even...

Re: Rudders - Steering

Thanks Laidback, I had read that thread when searching on the issue before. Seems like it's the same issue that we are having.
I think this will be one of those longer term projects, we'll put up...

Re: Rudders - Steering

Further discussion with the "broker service expert", he stated later that he had only seen this problem "on occasion". Really he didn't know much. Or he knew but he didn't want to really admit that...

Re: Rudders - Steering

Well we just spoke to the Fountaine Pajot dealer here in Australia, and was told that the bearings are fouled from sitting. The boat has been sitting in a marina that is mostly fresh water for 4...

Re: Rudders - Steering

Thanks Laidback,
We did disconnect the cables and the steering is nice and fine. Ug! We cannot find any grease nipple around the rudder shaft or bearings. Might have to get some other eyes on this...

Rudders - Steering

Just went out on our first sail of the season, and the steering was very tight. Felt very hard to turn wheel. We weren't going far, so anchored up no worries, and dove underneath expecting to find...
