Re: And Now The Hunt Begins

Welcome to Cruisers Forum.

That could be useful! Who said this was the fun part?

We're looking mainly at Formosa 51, Hudson Force 50, Vagabond 47, and CT54. Right now we're in San Francisco....

Re: And Now The Hunt Begins

Thanks for that.

There are a few things I'd better check out.... I'm in a rental car, so I need to know if they allow it, and if the insurance will still cover the car there. And more importantly...

Re: And Now The Hunt Begins

That aft cabin is great.
Any idea how practical it would be to take a drive from San Diego to Ensenada? It's not that far, but I'm not familiar with USA/Mexico border crossing issues.

Re: And Now The Hunt Begins

Thanks Curmudgeon.
That boat looks good, as does the price.

I haven't been on CF for a few weeks. Busy trying to find the dreamhttps://www.cruisersforum.com/images/icons2/icon_rolleyes.gif

Re: And Now The Hunt Begins

Left Sydney in a swamp of tears, mostly female. Aparently there is a difference between happy tears, sad tears, and we'll miss you tears. Still can't figure it out after 64 years...

25 hours...

Re: And Now The Hunt Begins

There is a Formosa 51 that sold there about 4 months ago. Now I see it is back on the market at a higher price, with some new work done. Sounds a bit suspicious.
Also a great looking Vagabond 47....

Re: And Now The Hunt Begins

Atoll,
I get to scrub the Deck Scrubber... it's her reward for being dirty :p :whistling:

We're going to be in the Greek Islands, virtually on the Turkish border.
Any suggestions for places to...

Re: And Now The Hunt Begins

I went to boarding school about 30 miles east of Cape Town near the Hottentots Holland Mountains.
I tried to Google brokers in Malaysia... not too much success. I'll check again tomorrow.

Re: And Now The Hunt Begins

Boatman,
That timber boat is amazing!
Steel is a concern because checking for rust in hidden areas is difficult.
In an earlier life I was a glassy contractor, so GRP works for me. I've even got...

Re: And Now The Hunt Begins

Mexdon,
I left my run a bit late for the B1/B2 visa. I'd heard about the VWP and figured that was all I'd need. It probably is all I need to find the boat, but then I might need more time.
From...

Re: And Now The Hunt Begins

Thanks Billy,
Pretty well as we thought.
Looks like we'll be fine with any UK/Euro zone purchase. We would get it Aussie registered right away and sail her out of VAT liable areas within the time...

Re: And Now The Hunt Begins

Does anyone have suggestions for dream graveyard areas?

Typically the places where people run out of puff, money, partners, vision, and leave the boat with a view to bringing it back later. Then...

Re: And Now The Hunt Begins

Good points.
I had a broker advise me that any boat being bought out of Turkey would have some kind of "exit taxes". It was about $4,000 on a $150,000 boat.

It's my understanding that VAT isn't...

Thanks guys.
Doodles, that could be a useful introduction.

And Now The Hunt Begins

At last!
We have a buyer for our business and that means come mid February we will be seriously in the market for a boat to be our new home.

We are in Australia now but don't mind where we...
