Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

On the "odd occasion" I choose to helm my yacht I prefer to do it from the leeward side as I have a great view of the tell rails on the Genoa. For the view hidden behind the sail I have to move very...

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

It's probably for dining/drinking in the cockpit in cold/wet weather at anchor or in the marina. Also it looks like it can be sailed like that. Given the location of the mainsheet, they have no...

More office cafeteria look than Ikea

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

Ok, it sounds great to say that if you are dismasted with a keel stepped mast, you might end up with 7m of mast that you can jury ring a sail to, to get you home. But that assumes that the other 10m...

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

I don't know what this yacht is as it has no brand markings, but it's pilot house or is it deck saloon, looks to be rather sleek and perhaps relatively good for windage

The other day it was bow...

:banghead:

Don't be such a drama queen, I lived for 16 years at the same latitude as southern Greenland (I only just realised that). It's no big deal being up that far north when you are talking...

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

Why do you think there were lots of finger prints and I was being too polite to mention the other marks on the pole :whistling:

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

Deck... A shiny SS pole is an interior design negative on a "guys" boat, lots of fingerprints and more important things to do than polish it:whistling:

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

I have a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 40 and a couple of berths over is a Sun Fast 40 which is the same boat except for a deck stepped mast and a few other goodies. The SF mast is a little taller but most...

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

Are you offering this photo to Dockhead as an idea of a pilothouse design?

On a 50+ footer, a small one man pilothouse would create minimal windage which would keep DH happy although...

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

So you are saying that the designer hasn't got a clue about how to design a cruising boat?

Every boat is a compromise in design and because of this, no boat is perfect even when it is designed for...

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

Not, hot off the pen at all, the 64 is from his old design philosophy. He has updated his design philosophy for the new Halberg Rassey 44. This one is so new that the first boat wont be finished...

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

Yes, if you want to go exploring Antarctic and Arctic it's best to do it in a boat that's proven itself capable of cruising in such places, such as the yacht in this stunning video.

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

If you want a bow with plenty of buoyancy, you could always copy the design of some mini transat yachts

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

If the boat was designed as you have drawn, then the forestay would have moved to the bow and a new bowsprit added for the asymmetric increasing the LOA

Given that a lot of the inverted bow...
