Re: Anchor types and General questions
The truth of this statement should be obvious, but very much worthwhile repeating :thumb: |

Re: Anchor types and General questions
I have always thought that there must be some reality behind the reputation, so have always been cautious. But these anchors are particularly good at setting themselves - wouldn't that greatly... |

Re: Anchor types and General questions
I had good experiences with my Danforths. Similar performance to Fortress, but Fortress has sharper flukes and possibly better geometry, so sets more aggressively. But heavier Danforth worked... |

Re: Anchor types and General questions
Absolutely right. I had been sailing for 15 years before I had a boat with any kind of motor. Back the mainsail and back down good until the anchor is well buried in the seabed. :thumb: The... |

Re: Anchor types and General questions
Speaking of throwing anchors out and praying, the only anchor type which -- in my experience -- will almost always hold without setting, provided the bottom is reasonable, is the Fortress. That's... |

Re: Anchor types and General questions
How did you "set" it? I doubt you will find a single soul on here who would agree, that throwing the anchor overboard and going below to cook dinner (!), can be called "setting" the anchor. That is... |

Re: Anchor types and General questions
How do you know it's set, if you didn't back down? Working the anchor into the seabed so that it really is set, and so that you KNOW it's set, is pretty much Chapter 1, Page 1, of... |

Re: Anchor types and General questions
Indeed! Anchors are an infamous hot button topic on here, although I think in the last year or so they have calmed down considerably. My advice to anyone starting out is to choose any latest... |

Re: Anchor types and General questions
I think all that is pretty logical. HOWEVER, I actually went from genuine Delta to genuine Rocna on my present boat, and the difference in setting behavior, at least in Northern European bottoms,... |

Re: Anchor types and General questions
Based on 15 years of experiences with a couple of genuine CQR's on a couple of different boats -- I would respectfully disagree with this. In my experience, which is similar to that of lots of... |
