Re: Bestevaer 49ST
When I visited the yard a few years ago, and saw your boat being built, the KM guy went on and on about how great the Jefa pilots are. Your experience certainly gives pause. You might want... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Was such a concept articulated? I don't think so. It's just one extra layer of security; certainly not a guaranty of any kind. I don't even lock my boat over most summers (didn't even have a... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Well, we've talked about this a lot in various threads. In fact this might be the number one thing I hate most about production designed boats -- and that includes high end cruising boats like HR,... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
My boat has a cockpit ice box. I never even vaguely considered using it for its intended purpose. I use it to store harness tethers, air horn, and water fittings. |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
I don't understand -- what are you doing without? Looks like you've got more or less "all the comforts of home" -- and why should you not? As to your refrigeration (and I note -- fridge plus... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
I've been lurking and drooling oceans over the deck hardware :thumb: Just a quick question on another system -- what are you doing for refrigeration? |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
So you don't have an actual nav table? That wouldn't work for me at all, even without using paper charts, but everyone works differently, of course. I have seen boats with pilothouse helm... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Sounds like a plan. The tablet remote is really useful. You'll enjoy being able to keep an eye on everything from your bunk on the off watch. Or basically from anywhere. It unties you. |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
If Noelex and SWL need any more perspectives on INavX -- It works fine on my boat. Position from either the built-in GPS, or from the boat's network via GoFree, from which it also gets wind,... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Neptune likes modest, and even cute names. The opposite of Titanic. The gods should be pleased and amused, and put into the mood of sparing you, in time of crisis. Should also be short and clear... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
I'd rather have a stubbed toe than sea water in the fuel tank. IMHO, flush deck mounted fuel fillers are simply unfit for purpose. I battled diesel bug and water in the fuel in all of my previous... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
As I understand the term, a "babystay" is used exclusively to support the mast and is lower than an inner forestay. "Baby" because it's even lower than an inner forestay. And sails are never put on... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Little quibble on terminology -- staysail doesn't go on a babystay. Aren't you talking about an inner forestay? But that's a great idea, really great -- to get the windlass BEHIND the inner... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Now THAT'S a proper windlass. :thumb: Do you have any trouble getting jib sheets snagged in it? |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
I reckon they can mail order the parts and retrofit it themselves. SWL and Noelex are pretty handy, and the topworks of these devices are not all that complicated. |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
A good explanation. In short -- a clutch is NOT a brake, and -- it "shouldn't be used as a brake", as Wotname wrote. If you use the clutch to slow down or hold the chain, you're using the motor... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
That's the same bow thruster as I have on my Moody. I don't have anything to compare it with so can't really comment, but I'm pretty satisfied with it. Later Moody 54's (mine was the prototype) had... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Ange introduced me to the owner of KM, and I sailed there last year on my way back to the UK. I saw their boat under construction (by the way, what's the name???). I was extremely impressed, and... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
I have great experience with rubber snubbers, and I agree with Ken about the expensive English ones versus the Chinese carp which is sold everywhere. I always use rubber snubbers when tied up to a... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Indeed. I prefer horizontal windlasses like the Lighthouse and Lofrans, but if I were doing a vertical one, it would be this one :thumb: You're getting the warping drum and external brake, right?... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Just FYI, Simrad/B&G AC12/42 are identical except for the power relay. If it's well within rated capacity, no need to oversize. |
