I lurk on that SA thread, too. I was astonished to discover that one can view pictures of naked and semi-naked women on the internet! Who knew? I thought the internet was all about boats.

Just filling in some detail for the record here. . . . A few days ago Michael (Hotrod's son) confirmed that the hulls in fact are sheathed with full cloth and epoxy. No word on what weight or how...

I agree with that. I love to see people get the bug, and take on something monumental. I've had that fire burning in my head a few times, and built myself some nice boats that have taken me places...

Ugly doesn't matter much with boats. Functional does. It's really nice when the two (that is, esthetics and functionality) coexist at a high level.

I fear the Flyin Hawaian's functionality was...

I intend to put some Styrofoam blueboard under my sofa, launch it and head for Hawaii. I'll call it the Flyin' Recliner.

It's all relative -- I think I read that he spent all of his savings, and all or most of his mother's retirement savings. That may only amount to $20,000 but it still means there's nothing to fall...

It's just heartbreaking to see all that passion and all those hours poured into what is a fundamentally unsound design. The hulls are 1/2" CDX with only fiberglass tape at the seams. No sheathing at...
