If you don't have an adjustable backstay, your forestay tension comes from the shrouds (which must be swept back). So if curvature in the forestay is trashing the shape of your reefed headsail,... |

Yep, cars back is the main way to twist the headsail. Twist moves the centre of effort down and forward. |

Another thought - you mentioned it didn't seem to be a great headsail shape when you roll it up a little... There's a general problem with rolling headsails in that the leech and foot tend to roll... |

Let's take it apart. As I said earlier, I strongly recommend asking "why" not just "what" so you can (1) set good and (ahem) bad advice in context and (2) consider when / if the advice also works in... |
