Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

Hi Dave, I can see the valve to drain the tank in your first picture. At the cold water input. It's the same on my L440 except I have a hose at the ouput that goes .. not far enough to reach the...

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

The factory setup is way too complicated, with the quattro at the heart of your electrical system you will end up with a much nicer/simpler system. You should really take some time to draw a diagram...

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

I do not understand why you would deliberately create such limitations on your system. With 2700W solar, quattro 5kW and adequate battery you can easily use aircon for a few minutes/hours in total...

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

Hi Jason, 2700W is a lot ... you should start a new thread with a description/diagram of your system, what you want to do, what answers your seeking. I "only" have 1320W and a multi 3kW but ... if I...

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

Hi Mike, I am surprised you can't find it the L450 user manual ?! On mine (L440) it says 42 meters, 12mm diameter, polyester. So yours should be pretty close ...

edit: paulinoz was faster !

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

All good, what I call manual reefing, and what has been used by most sailboat for years, all reef points on the luff attached to the gooseneck or mast.

I am afraid this is going to be very...

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

Sorry I just realized I am not answering Dave's questions and yours ... I am not reefing downwind as the result has always been quite messy for me. I am always reefing 45°AWA with genoa and rarely...

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

I have the downhaul and use it. It is almost necessary for boats with high boom / fly bridge.

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

Basically it is about removing the pulley(s) on the luff so that reefing lines go directly to the winch after lowering the clew. Reefing lines are therefore much shorter with manual reefs. And then...

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

FWIW I converted my so called automatic reefs to manual, works much better, total control over the tack & clew...

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

Great vids Dave thanks for sharing !

I do not understand you talking about reefing 45° to the waves.. can you talk AWA ? You do not say much about drawbacks of leisure furl, are there any in terms...

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

Yes but you could have done the same with a DC watermaker since your genset is DC, without the need to go through the inverter, hence better efficiency. Or am I missing something ?

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

In my case 12VDC works much better. Why have a 230VAC watermaker if you have plenty of solar & batteries ? and most especially if your genset is DC ?

No controversy to me, it seems quite obvious...

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

Yes, but no. Putting back a 100 Ah into a big batt will be faster than in a small batt, provided you have a power source larger than what the small batt can accept in bulk and/or absorption.

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

If you are using the same ratio as jbinbi then yours is actually 1.33. But whatever the ratio I am impressed that 360W of solar allows you to recover from one night of use so quickly, especially on a...

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

Hi Dave, I have a similar setup, 2 times 2 Benq 330W. I use the victron 150/60, you might do the same for your 2 panels array, to save some $. 150/85 seems good for the 3 panels array.

I would...
