When I read Alex's comments in Polux's mail #388, it seemed possible that Alex's autopilot might still work with absolute compass directions (and only the wind direction based part would be missing)....

It seems Alex has at least stopped following Armel. I think it is about time to at least try something else. Maybe he can find better winds.

But it seems he is slower now. Maybe sailing more...

If Alex is not fast enough to sail in the wake of Armel and close the gap, maybe he could try leaving some distance to the coastline in search of stronger winds.

If Alex follows Armel all the way, it looks more and more probable that he will be 100 nm behind also at the finish line. Is Alex happy with that? Probably not. Maybe he should select a different...

Armel seems to be high enough to continue straight (=curved) to Cape Verde. Alex maybe has to continue with current course for a while to do the same.

He has now turned to the right, closer to Alex Thomson's track. But he must believe in getting better winds on the western route up.

Maybe the question is about catching headwinds soon vs. catching easier winds somewhat later. Concerning where to go next, the western side of mid Atlantic seems more tempting to me.
