This could be the case because I think the original Navico was a British company, and Simrad is/was Dutch.

Well, they are 30 years old and you have no idea of their history - lightning, humidity, etc. I don't see how a depth transducer could be sending speed data.

Yes, Navico was a brand in the 80's and 90's. I had a Navico tiller pilot in the 80's and a wheel pilot in the 90's. They used to compete very well with Autohelm.

Yes, that is my point. If you don't use your radar, then the fmcw units use less power.

But to me, trumpeting this point of NOT using a product as an "advantage" is silly.

Isn't ARPA done in the MFD? Does the radome really do all of that computing and tracking? If so, how? Or radome has no connection to our instrumentation other than the MFD.

One other thing: I don't have a fmcw radar to make measurements on, so all I can do is compare actual pulse data with fmcw specs.

It is quite possible that fmcw uses much less power in practice...

One thing to take away from the above is how little power is used to operate a pulse radar.

Navico takes HUGE liberties in their marketing by portraying pulse radars as using "kilowatts" of power,...

OK, that was pretty easy to do.

Setup: DRS4D connected directly through a NN3D MFD8

MFD on, radar stby: 2.64A

MFD on, radar on: 3.18A @0.5nm, 3.46A @12nm

MFD stby, radar stby: 2.00A

The DRS4D does not require the external power supply - it is powered from the MFD.

I can't access the measurements I made on ours (they are in another thread here, though), but I know they weren't...

We have been through the power thing on other threads. I don't have access to my computer that has the actual specs, but the power use difference between pulse and fmcw is almost nil in operation.
