Interesting, thanks. The double ended icebreaking capacity would be very useful. As in heavy ice you spend nearly as much time going backwards as forwards, trying to get a run up at the the thicker...

It's not as cut and dry as that, different grades of steel perform very differently in cold conditions, and it's not a sudden dropoff but a slower degradation, typically in notch toughness. Certainly...

It's the other way around. Steel becomes brittle, Alloy much less so.

I'd like to know how she got holed. Possibly rudder or prop damage?
