Re: Dingy Horsepower, need minimum weight!
It is not usually a matter of need. But a fast dink opens up a lot of possibilities. Calmer or quieter or safer anchorage and still able to access shore. Snorkeling and hiking opportunities without a... |

Re: Bahamas island hopping anchorage timing
You are asking for trouble. What is your plan if your chart plotter quits on the way out? Or your engine? If you do decide to do this, please have your anchor and crew ready for quick deployment. |

Re: All modern anchors with loop, based on the Bugel are the same in performance
Let's compare the slowest dragster to the fastest minivan. That will prove all dragsters are the same. |

Re: Clear reinforced hose for raw water?
Our 1998 Privilege catamaran has clear, wire reinforced hose between the thruhull and the strainer in the raw water circuit, and between the strainer and the raw water pump. Same hose is also used... |

Re: Older, Quality Cats
Privilege 42. The P42 replaced the P39, and was replaced by the P435. Very well built. Very seaworthy. Sails well. Large cockpit - which we like better than P435 design. Lots of usable storage.... |

Re: New Ultra Marine West Giveaway!
Hope the chain hook works as well as they say. Over 1500 nights at anchor and I'm still looking for the perfect solution. https://www.ultramarinewest.com/ultra-chain-grab/ And of course, a... |

Re: Hypalon
Our hypalon AB dinghy lasted 15 years (2005 - 2020) hanging on the davits of our catamaran while we cruised Florida, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean. In the end, the areas of the material with the... |

Re: Two sets of tools
Well it's a catamaran, so of course, you need two of everything! But I keep all of my tools in one place; centrally located in the salon. To cut down on return trips, I fill a canvas tool bag for... |

Re: Multimeter for the Boat
When you turn it on to measure voltage, does it default to AC or DC? I had to swap my home meter and boat meters -- I rarely measure DC at home and rarely measure AC on the boat. |

Re: Anchor in Shallow water
Our general rule is in up to 20ft of water we put out 100ft of all chain rode. Up to 30 ft deep, 150ft of rode. Up to 45ft deep, 200ft of rode. We've never had to anchor deeper than that. We draw... |

Re: Advice on ground tackle
We have a Privilege 42, 23' beam and 26,000 lbs cruising weight. Our anchor is a 65lb Mantus, which we love. Our chain is 300 ft of 12mm G43. 1500+ worry-free nights at anchor. 65 lbs is about... |

Re: Fouling of solar panels
We have had 625 watts of solar over the davits on our cat since 2005. Sailed Florida, Bahamas, and Caribbean and have never had to wash panels because of birds. Every few months I will notice a... |

Re: Help from strangers while docking? A poll and my rambling musings.

Re: Help me whittle down my anchors
I would ditch all except the rocna. Then add a Fortress 37 as a secondary and a right-sized Mantus as a spare. Both can be stored disassembled, if necessary. |

Re: Shaded Panels - Catamaran Boom
Most cruisers spend most of their time at anchor. Where do you keep your boom when you're not sailing? Will you be cruisng in the Bahamas or the Caribbean? The wind there is almost always from... |

Re: 7 "Rescued" from Sportfisher off Mid-Atlantic Coast
Video in OP shows only occasional white caps, which would indicate less than 15 knots of wind. |

Re: Multi-hull cruising: where to start?
"a work remote while cruising plan" One thing not mentioned on this thread yet is that cruising takes a lot of time and effort. Living on a boat and working remotely: no problem. Living on a boat... |

Re: Very Flexible Sealant (not adhesive) For Polycarbonate?
I believe the design of the joint is more important than the particular sealant used. Post #55 shows a diagram of a proper 2-sided joint. Letting the bottom of that joint stick to anything turns... |

Re: Working a fulltime job aboard your boat whilst in the Carribean or Keys?
Cruising is a full-time job. Living in a parked boat (marina or a few certain anchorages) is not. That's more like a hobby, as far as consuming time, attention, and resources. I'd bet most... |

Re: 31.2Kw Victron LiFePO4 Split System Install
One comment on additional solar on the port side. If you are in the Caribbean, the wind is nearly always from the east (plus or minus). At anchor your port side will be facing north and get a lot... |

Re: Replacement Anchor much larger than Factory
