Re: Caulk for Teak

Re: Caulk for Teak

Bond breaker tape makes no sense at all if the teak has been epoxy bonded to the substrate and is thin ie 90% of modern applications. Bond breaker stops the caulk from sticking at the bottom of the...

Re: Has anyone used a KiwiProp?

Yep. Had a 3 blade for 3.5 years after changing from fixed 3 blade.
It has worked perfectly for me. Low vibration was noticable and there was a significant sailing speed gain of about 1 knot on a...

Re: PRESSSURIZED KEROSENE STOVE ISSUES

1. Stove cold / Inadequate pre-heating - this is usually it

Re: Price for ranger 33 in Australia

The Ranger 33 is a lovely boat. Everyone who has ever owned one will remember it fondly. Classic Gary Mull "nice little sailboat". But yes 79k is over the top.

Electric winches on a 33 footer...

Re: Do Dust Busters work?

Do yourself a favour and get a Dyson.

Seriously.

They are so much better than the rest in every way. Vastly better suction, Li battery so much lighter, better plastic, better design for...

Re: Cleaning Sails

Good lord, I can't believe that people are seriously suggesting you wash sails in a washing machine. Fair go I'm speechless.

Mask 30mm wide strips. Topcoat varnish alternate strips and sprinkle or mix in microspheres. This way you get more shine. You will find the textured strip collect dirt but a soft nail brush and a...

Yep you usually need one for spray protection in a centre cockpit design, a bit less so for aft cockpits. There is still nothing like sailing with the wind on your face and a clear view ahead though....

Wood. If God had wanted us to have fibreglass boats, he would have made fibreglass trees. Was the Ark GRP? I don't think so.

And as for steel or aluminium, the cost in carbon footprint is...

We recently got a SeaHopper foldable and LOVE it. 2.4 x 1.2 (8x4) plywood and folds down to a bag 2400 x 500 x 150 (8' x 19.5" x 6"). We stow it flat on the cabin top (clear view ahead) when its...

I'd suggest the red light is a low oil level indicator rather than oil pressure indicator. The reason it won't run is that the ignition circuit is grounded until there is a safe level of oil in the...

Veering and clocking are the same - a right shift or movement in a clockwise direction around the compass. The wind shift described above is "backing" - going left or anticlockwise

A couple of other interesting (at least to me) points about apparent wind.

1. Apparent wind is the reason for the Primary Rule of Sailing - that it don't matter where you are headed, the wind is...
