Re: Dodger Quotation
I just got a quote from a shop in New Bern, NC for new canvas for my Tartan 40. Dodger, bimini and connector: $4,500.00. It was broken down as $3,000, $1,000 and $500.00, respectively. New Bern... |

Re: Going electric - change my mind
I'm always railing against electric conversions. It seems you give up so much for so little. Your cruising range is extremely limited, and getting out of the way of, or powering through a big storm... |

Re: Bank to finance - older boat
What a bunch of blowhards! Three years ago I bought a 29 year old boat and financed 80% of the purchase, secured only by the vessel. Try J.J. BestBanc. |

Re: Need opinions on watermakers for a specific scenario please
We also have an EchoTec engine driven watermaker. 40 GPH and very reliable. We only have a 48 gal water tank, but we don't drink out of the tank, so I fill bottles from the sample tap before filling... |

Re: We have a winner!
Needle dick...I love it! That's my favorite line. I don't know who said what to piss you off, but I'll give you my unrequested observation/opinion. You mentioned "racer" as one of your interests.... |

Re: Soda Stream CO2
We have SodaStream on our boat and LOVE it. I carbonate water from the watermaker and I refill my SS carbonator bottles with dry ice, which saves a ton over exchanging them. I actually really like... |

Re: Mineral content of desalinated water
My Echo Tec watermaker has a built-in mineral cartridge that replaces minerals on the way to the tank. |

Re: Looking for Affordable Good Marina in North Carolina
FF: Another thought, as I'm not sure what you are looking for, is Pecan Grove Marina right here in Oriental. I keep my Tartan 40 there. There is NO BETTER hurricane hole in the southeast. The channel... |

Re: Looking for Affordable Good Marina in North Carolina
FF: I would HIGHLY consider Wayfarer's Cove Marina in Minnesott Beach,NC, just a few minutes from Oriental. They have a highly regarded team of contractors on site. The only work they ask to complete... |

Re: Looking for Affordable Good Marina in North Carolina
Unfortunately, Alan sold Sailcraft a couple years ago. The new owners have NOT been receiving the same stellar reviews as Alan's team did. |

Re: Could one use boat propeller to drive el generator?
I'm sorry, I want to remain polite, but you are completely wrong. There is a MAJOR difference between the gyrocopter theory and the free wheeling sailboat prop, and here it is: The gyrocopter prop IS... |

Re: Could one use boat propeller to drive el generator?
This is not the first time I've heard this, but it is not correct. A fixed prop is like dragging a bucket through the water. |

I believe you meant airports relative to Beaufort. Wilmington and Jacksonville (NC) both have small airports, but so does New Bern, which is closer than either of those two. AA flies out of New Bern... |

Re: Looking for any advice on getting a new watermaker
I second the Echo Tec suggestion. The previous owner of our boat threw out his Spectra watermaker and replaced it with an engine driven 40 GPH EchoTec system. They also have 12v DC systems. The... |

Re: Newer technology A/C systems
I can tell you one thing; Inverter compressors in domestic refrigerators are, for the most part, junk. They have a very high failure rate and are expensive to replace. Mark D |
