Re: RACOR 500 filter elements

Certainly interested in a couple of cases if you still have them. text me at 360.941.4715, and thanks.

Re: Lithium Battery Charging Question(s)

Not so much. When the manufacturer tells you how to manage their product so you won't need to buy it again, it is probably worth listening to them. This from Lithionics, who have one of the best...

Re: How do you charge your LiFePo4 Batterybanks?

Perhaps check out Sterling Power's chargers. I daisy chained 3 30 amp, 24vdc to supplement 100 amp output from the charger inverter for my 600 Ah LFP bank. We use around 300 Ah per day, and 90...

Re: Teak - Epoxy and then Varnish

Smith's is just regular epoxy with MEK added to reduce viscosity to that of paint thinner. Check the MSDS, and that's what you'll find.

To the OP, your approach is what I have done for...

Re: I Can't Believe I'm Starting a Gun Thread

I'd suggest anyone wondering about this look at the Rock Island VR80 shotgun. Don't let the appearance scare you - it is just a 12 gauge on a familiar platform. Slugs can definitely kill a polar or...

Re: Porta-bote haters: what's not to like?

We've had both. The 8' is pretty small and we find the 10' way, way better. If you can fit a 14' kyack on board, you can fit a folded 10'. The 2.5hp is the right motor. Most of the problems...

Re: New Generator or Lithium?

I went through the same consideration - small "nightime" genset to run rather than our 20 kw set or go Lithium. Ultimately chose lithium, and now run the big genset for a couple of hours a day to...

Re: The end game: What is the future of travel between contained and endemic countrie

Based on the CDC, the odds of dying from Covid for ages 0-49 are 1 in 200. The odds of dying from a vehicle accident are 1 in 114. Time to plow up the roads?

Re: Balmar SG-200 Battery Monitor

I installed the SG200 pretty much as soon as it came out. It did not perform in a way that would allow recommendation. However, kudos to Balmar to continue to work on and improve this device. With...

Re: Help In Selecting New Electronics

Good positive recommendations here, but for a negative, do not consider Simrad. Zero customer service, and when they come out with a new model, they throw away all service parts, even for units only...

Re: Steel hull how thin?

Yes, it does. Delfin is 55', 1/4" plating, built in 1965. I've seen 1/8" on fairly small boats, like 30' or so.

Re: epoxy primer over vinyl ester filler?

Been doing it for years. No issues. Typically non-corrosive epoxy based primer over bright steel for repairs, then vinyl ester, then Awlgrip primer, then top coat.

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks

Ethan, in your opinion, is the memory effect enhanced when consistently charging to 3.5 vpc as compared to something higher? I recall this was extensively discussed earlier, but don't remember if a...

Re: Separate LiFePO4 batteries from Alternator Charging

It's unclear what type of regulator you are using. If it is the built in on the alternator, I would suggest you change that out asap. With a decent 3 stage regulator, the optimum bulk charge...

Re: What is the best way to prime steel?

For small spots, I use a Dremel tool, a la dental work, to grind out a spot of rust. Never had a large bit to deal with except on the aluminum superstructure, and there use 40 grit on an orbital...

Re: What size LiFEPO4 bank

Good summary....

The only things I would add is that after using our LFP bank cruising for a couple of years, I realized that rather than sizing the bank to 50% of the AGM bank it replaced, I...

Re: What size LiFEPO4 bank

If you get a chance to spend some time cruising with Lithium vs. LA you might understand why Lithium is so favored by those who actually use them for that purpose. Put another way, is listening to...

Below is Lithionics cycle life projection. Rate of discharge is a factor with the slower rates of discharge increasing cycle life above what is shown here.

Re: What size LiFEPO4 bank

They assemble them after matching impedance. They do their own testing as they have to stand behind performance expectations in sales to the gummit.

I asked them whose cells that used, but they...

Re: What size LiFEPO4 bank

Compared to lead acid, yes, although discharging to 100% isn't something recommended. However, if you discharge to 50% rather than 80%, you'll get around 25% more cycles. In the real world of...
