Re: raspberry pi

It's a funny old world.

I rigged up a Lubuntu 13.04 system on another mini-itx board with a cedarview chipset and had a devil of a time getting mkv and avi files to run with s/mplayer1|2...even...

Re: raspberry pi

I concur with all that's been said regading OpenCPN on a Pi.

I tried it, and the way I use a computer, it was too 'laggy' for me.

I've tried other boards, but I run into the 'display problem',...

Re: AIS-receiver not working in OpenCPN under Navigatrix

I've just worked my way backwards through the posts.

The problem, it seems, is the version of OpenCPN in the Navigatrix release cannot demux the AIS data from the GPSD.

Since you are not using...

Re: AIS-receiver not working in OpenCPN under Navigatrix

The new .deb packages for OpenCPN has changed locations of some of the files.

In Navigatrix a blind upgrade of OpenCPN will break configurations as the upgrade moves some files. Additionally it...

Re: Navigatrix

I understand your concern and your assumption. I am glad it was unfounded.

I don't remember when cowsay was introduced into Navigatrix, but I remember talking to the guy who stuck it in.

I...

The parrot is part of a program called cowsay ( cowsay - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowsay) )

Cowsay traditionally has an ASCII cow that cycles through a...

Re: Navigatrix or Some Other ?

Oh, and to avoid the panic....

If you hold down the power button for 4+ seconds everything shuts down.

Re: Navigatrix or Some Other ?

Re-make the stick.

Something got buggered. Either in the creation of the stick using the Installer....or, in the download of the navigatrix.iso.

There are ways to check the files integrity...

Re: Navigatrix or some other?

Today, the bad news is I was getting ready to leave (sail covers off, dinghy stowed, etc...) and found 6 litres of diesel in my Perkins 4-108 oil sump.

The good news is I had a spare lift pump;...

Re: Navigatrix or Some Other ?

You did a good job of deciphering my lousy proofreading.

I won't address the file saving, but your stance on Tor is like someone saying s/he will only drive a new car. But a month later; sitting...

Re: Navigatrix or Some Other ?

There are only three types of problems I've had with USB sticks.

Swimming with them. Fresh water rinse and a few days in a bag of rice usually straightens them out.

Snapping off the...

Re: Navigatrix or some other?

...that why my metaphor days are over. I couldn't think of anything better at 3:30AM....and 2.60 Euros/hour for access time.

However, when you're measuring the total consumption of the system and...

If it's not 'laptop' then a spinning harddrive is down the list for electrical inefficiencies...akin to closing a window in a house with no roof....or something like...

I can use an application created by Intel that is designed to ostensibly calculate the power...

Re: Navigatrix or some other?

You're wondering about power consumption.

It's not very scientific, and it's barely even 'real world' and when it all boils down it...well, what difference does it make?

Do a little test.......

Re: Navigatrix or some other?

Looking at your requirements

Navigatrix uses the most energy efficient kernel and configuration generally available. To do better you would need to tailor to individual preferences/tolerances and...

Re: Navigatrix.net - The First Linux Distribution for Cruisers

There have been a few people who have done this. There is even a puppy packaged for sailing people. But by the time you add, add, and add it looks like Navigatrix...without the configuration hassles.

Re: Navigatrix.net - The First Linux Distribution for Cruisers

It's based on a wish and a dream.

I had the opportunity to meet one of the developers when I was in Panama.

He wanted a system that he would use and that he could give to his friends who didn't...
