Re: Twin Disk SP60 Sail Drive Clutch Problems

Making 53.9 hp @2700 RPM, your Sole Mini 60 exceeds the maximum Hp rating of the TMC60A. If you continue to use it, you will continue to have failures.

Short of submerging the transmission, I'm...

Re: Repowering from a Westerbeke W46

The 45T is a low pressure turbo and does not create a lot of extra heat. Particularly at cruise rpm's. You may need to add a ventilation fan. Properly placed, it should work fine. You will need to...

Re: Overheating cylinder, mercruiser 7.4L

It can also spray too much fuel and cause the oil around the piston rings to washout and increase friction. Eventually damaging the cylinder and piston. I've seen injectors so bad that gasoline was...

Re: Overheating cylinder, mercruiser 7.4L

Check coolant ratio. If 50/50 is exceeded, your engine may over heat.

Most marine applications can use 40/60. Which will provide better heat transfer and cool the engine better. I believe 40/60...

Re: opinion on perkins 4-236

It depends on the ratio of the Velvet Drive.

For any CCW rotation flywheel:

A 72c 1.91:1 will turn a RH prop
A 72c 2.10:1 will turn a LH prop
A 72c 2.57:1 will turn a LH prop
A 72c 2.91:1...

Re: a minor consideration...

The majority of diesel engines have a crank that turns with a left hand rotation. ( CCW when looking at the flywheel )

Propeller rotation is dictated by the transmission design. Some...

Re: 2002 C & C 121 repower

Your Volvo was a 38-40 hp engine and has 3 cylinders. Most replacement engines of that Hp rating will be a 4 cylinder engine and to tight of a fight. The good news is that your vessel is over...

Re: Water in saildrive - bad luck or?

Do not overlook the o-ring around the drain plug at the bottom of the drive.
It is cheap insurance to replace the o-ring every time the plug is removed. Most people do not do this.

Re: Engine oil analysis

With a 45 year old engine that runs well, all you are looking for is salt water or anti freeze or diesel fuel in the oil.

Re: Diesel RPM?

Kubota engines are used in generator applications where the engine runs at 1800 rpm (60 hz) or 1500 rpm (50 hz,Europe) continuously, for the life of the engine. Which is a long time.

The best...

Re: ZF68IV / ZF63 IV no oil pressure

Kudos to you for letting us know how it worked out. The final solution is always more important and more interesting than the pontification and prognostication.
