Re: Does anyone have flexible solar panels installed? Would you do it again?

Yes, they look great, however at least in my case (HQST bought from from Amazon) they didn’t last a year. I built a hard bimini with integrated flexible panels, no problem with cooling. First year...

Re: Lead Crystal Batteries in Australia

Please check the attached technical bulletin.

They are amazing batteries, BTW, I use them as traction batteries in my electric propulsion system and I cannot be happier with them.

Red face Re: Firefly Oasis Carbon Foam AGM Batteries

My experience with this company was quite bad, however the only reasonable people I dealt with were the ones based in India. I ended up buying another brand and couldn't be happier.

I contacted...

Re: Lead Crystal Batteries in Australia

I contacted them recently to get info on chargers after the EVComponents - KPES fiasco, they told me they now have a person focused on the marine market:

Rick Shade, rrs@bettabatteriesusa.com,...

Re: Lead Crystal Batteries in Australia

I’d like to provide a counterargument, as my experience with Lead Crystal (in the US) has been quite different than yours, battery performance has been excellent, and technical support/customer...

Re: Electric Sailboats Illustrated Guide to Boats Converted For Sale and Tips

Thank you for starting this thread, Steadman, I’ve been following it with great interest. I’m posting now as I’ve recently made significant changes to our sailboat’s electric propulsion system and I...

Re: Any Other Dufour Owners Out There ?

My previous boat was a 1973 Dufour 27 Safari, my current one is a 1975 Dufour 34. Both great sailboats, superb quality. Soft decks are not unusual, the Safari required more work than the 34, I...

Re: Electric Sailboat . . . On The Cheap ?

The only thing I’d possibly do differently if having to re-design the system: 48V and direct drive instead of 72V and reduction gear.
What would the benefit be?
The benefit of...

Re: Electric Sailboat . . . On The Cheap ?

Seventh season with electric propulsion and we still love it. With group 31 AGM batteries (72V system) our 34' sailboat has real limitations in terms of range; supplementing with a portable...

Re: Bimini made out of non-flexible solar cells?

I am considering the same project for my 1975 Dufour 34. I am currently checking mounting options and hard biminis on other boats, like this one:

Re: 3M 5200 on a dingy?

Sorry for the delay, I was away for a few days. HH-66 is a one-part product, not as easy to use as 5200, but much simpler than two-part glues, which by the way I had previously (unsuccessfully) used...

Re: 3M 5200 on a dingy?

HH-66 worked very well on my old PVC dingy, I removed the whole floor and transom and re-glued, no leaks. Just follow the instructions carefully.

Re: Electric Sailboat . . . On The Cheap ?

It was designed to accept two bearings if needed (the second bearing mounted top of the flaps in the frame in front of the large pulley, and the shaft's extra length). The bearing is self-aligning...

Re: Electric Sailboat . . . On The Cheap ?

Bob,

We have been extremely pleased with it. We were perfectly aware of the limitations, mainly range, but so far it has not been an issue. With the generator (still not used) it should be less...

Re: Electric Sailboat . . . On The Cheap ?

Two years ago I installed EP on my sailboat, a Dufour 34, for $4,200 ($4,000 if not considering spares and some items I did not install, even less if offsetting the sale of the old diesel).

I...

Re: Electrical Propulsion vs Diesel Propulsion

I do not...

Re: dufour 31

If the engine is cold it will smoke (white smoke is OK, blue smoke is bad). It takes a while to warm up. Also, as these are raw water cooled engines, when in salt water the thermostat rusts and...
