Re: Hypalon and Acetone

When you have run out of ideas acetone will do nicely if its real hypalon. Just make sure you are wearing marigold gloves when doing it. Oh and preferably outside but not on the deck.

Just...

Re: Recommended boroscope for hull and drive inspection?

You wouldn't have any commercial connection to the product now would you?

Particularly posting a link on your first post :whistling:

You read the rules when joining the forum and the bit about...

Re: Change a Dripless Shaft Seal while in the Water?

Running short of VP blue grease, I tried a tube of white Castrol grease I had on board. Within a week of use the seal was leaking but when motoring. When speaking with an old Shipwright and telling...

Re: Cruising and Modern Conveniences- All is good with Universe

Erm, well yes we do. Its 1600w PSW so not as big as the main 2kW inverter and would take 20 minutes to connect up if needed, but it's there on board.

Takes time to find good kit on FB Market Place...

Re: Ultimate solar panels

Interesting news on YT and the web suggesting that there is a huge surplus of solar domestic sized panels in Europe and it will likely take 3-4 years to work through. Could well be true because we...

Re: Atmospheric water generation

Sheesh, that's dreadful. Even the little Katadyn will produce that an hour for about 4A

Re: ELCI breaker before or after inverter?

Doesn't count, they are DC.

I chose to only use one inverter output and put a RCBO on that. However, I did inspect the inverter wiring to ensure that neutral is bonded to the earth (UK...

Re: Stepping LiFePO4 voltage to ~FLA levels

Simple solution to drop the voltage is a longer thinner cable from LFP to electric outboard. However, having replaced the corroded plugs on my Minn Kota with Anderson connectors, I was somewhat...

Re: ELCI breaker before or after inverter?

Yes, just different names for the same widget. ELCO/GFCI is US and RCD/RCBO European. RCBOs now taking over from RCDs in Europe.

That's fine, what about a generator?

Re: Running a two stroke from a large static tank? How to deal with mix?

Mariner used to do a 50:1 mixing widget. Plastic tank with oil in which the fuel tank connected to and after mixing at the right ratio went on to the engine.

However, they weren't particularly...

Re: Remote Battery Terminals

Thanks, I have something very similar for crimping MC4 connectors. Need to see if they will do the 50A Anderson connectors.

Re: With lithium do we actually need a dedicated starter battery?

It is entirely possible  and what forums are all about, exchanging experiences. Though...

Re: batteries running to 0% at night

I don't have the Victron shunt kit, but believe that they require properly setting up prior to use and regular resets during use to keep them telling the truth.

Perhaps those Dakota LFPs are...

Re: AIS transceiver antenna spreader or stern?

Joe, if its on the stern and the mast falls down, then at least you are in a fighting chance of using it for a VHF. The cable on our stern antenna is long enough to reach the AIS and in emergency...

Re: Oddball anchors you have loved?

Our technique discovered by chance on the dive rib was to have 2m of chain on the anchor followed by a long length of 8mm rope, 40m+. Grapple and chain would be hurled over board away from the rib...

Re: Removing paint from fiberglass - How?

International do a paint stripper which won't damage gel coat. It was hard work stripping a 21ft rib hull because if you let it dry it turns hard again. The stuff is like wall paper glue so quite...

Re: With lithium do we actually need a dedicated starter battery?

Well actually you can mix LFP and LA, some of us are actually doing it

Re: Dropping my Keel

That sounds a bit drastic. By all means have the keel blasted with your choice of medium, glass, coconut, slurry etc. Sand went out years ago due to the risk of siiicosis.

It will probably flash...
